Cwm Glas Primary shortlisted for national Breakfast Club award

Cwm Glas Primary School, located in Winch Wen, is one of six schools shortlisted in the Best Breakfast Club category for 2025. The awards celebrate schools across the UK that go above and beyond to provide a nurturing start to the day for their pupils.

Shortlisted schools are in the running to receive £1,000 and an invitation to the House of Commons for the awards ceremony in November 2025. Winners will be selected by a specialist judging panel later this year.

A spokesperson for Cwm Glas Primary School said:

“We’re really proud to be shortlisted for the Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards and we can’t think of anyone more deserving than our breakfast club staff who go above and beyond for our students every morning.
As well as making sure pupils get a filling breakfast, our breakfast club provides a warm, inclusive space where children can make new friends, build confidence and get ready for a day of learning.”

The school’s breakfast club is open to all pupils and offers a structured, supportive environment that promotes physical health, social development and emotional wellbeing. Plans are underway to introduce mindfulness and relaxation sessions during breakfast time, helping children learn calming techniques before lessons begin.

According to Kellogg’s latest research, the number of children attending breakfast clubs daily has nearly doubled in two years — rising from 10% in 2023 to 18% in 2025. The survey also found that 36% of teachers see children arriving at school hungry every day, while 9% of parents say their children regularly skip breakfast.

Andrew Ridge, Social Impact and Sustainability Lead at Kellogg’s, said:

“Breakfast clubs like Cwm Glas Primary School play a vital role in getting pupils to school, and getting them fed and ready to start the school day.
Students can thrive when they are welcomed into a safe and warm environment, with access to a filling meal and supportive community to start their day.”

Kellogg’s has supported breakfast clubs for nearly 30 years, investing over £6 million in grants to help schools fund staff, equipment and ingredients. This year’s awards also introduce a new category — Breakfast Club Hero — celebrating individuals who go above and beyond to support their school’s breakfast provision.
