Swiss Re discovers that when everything's burning, insurance gets expensive. Revolutionary thinking! 💡

$78.5B in wildfire losses later, insurers finally realize extreme heat might be bad for business. Who could have predicted that 500k annual heat deaths would impact the bottom line? 🤔

To understand the impacts of climate change on a given natural hazard, insurers commonly use exploratory scenarios. In this latest article, Pope and Phibbs use a +2°C above pre-industrial climate scenario to analyse possible changes to insured losses from a present-day baseline due to #TropicalCyclones in the contiguous U.S.

Climate Change & Economic Risk

South Asia, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa face the highest GDP at risk, with lower-income countries disproportionately affected. Economic and institutional readiness varies, underscoring the urgent need for adaptive policies.

Policymakers and decision-makers must prioritize resilience-building strategies to mitigate these impacts and safeguard global economic stability.
