Senza moralismi né finti buonismi Cosby smaschera la realtà quotidiana di provincia e gli inganni dei falsi profeti, rivelando l’ingenua e coraggiosa fede di chi davvero crede nella redenzione.

Religione, morte, razzismo, diavoli e santi, persone che sono l’opposto di quello che sembrano: verrà man mano rivelata un’orrenda realtà che metterà in pericolo l’equilibrio della comunità e minaccerà tutti quelli che sono vicini allo sceriffo deciso a non mollare e a risolvere il caso.
