Young leaves of sea-kale sprouting in our gravel garden. The gravel garden was virtue by way of necessity: the previous owner-abusers of our house had covered this part of the garden with astroturfed wooden decking and the gravel was below. Rather than digging it out, we dug it in and added to it, so we could grow Mediterranean and seaside plants in our otherwise unbaked-brick clay soil.
