Richard Baxter, Puritan, equates love, and zeal for the Lord’s work, with deeds that save others from physical death. Do it now, else you or your friend may soon pass away. There will be cases where an act of mercy can be done today, but cannot be done tomorrow.

When most Christian presentations invoke a sense of urgency, how often is it for doing good deeds?

How can you do something expeditiously today?

RICHARD BAXTER (1615 - 1691) "Christian Politics" "Love and zeal are active and expeditious; and delay doth frequently frustrate good intentions. The persons may die that you intend to do good to; or you may die, or your ability and opportunities may cease; that may be done to-day which cannot be done to-morrow."

Joseph Hall, Puritan, considers Proverbs 19:17, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.”

Hall insists that God has good credit. God has given to us enough so that we may freely lend, and by grace instilled in us a heart that is willing to do so. This is God’s bounty and his justice.

How can you freely lend?

"As if God were not as good a debtor as a giver: He that gives to the poor lends to God, saith wise Solomon. If he freely give us what we may lend, and grace to give ; will he not much more pay us what we have lent, and give us, because we have given? that is his bounty; this, his justice."
