#ETMOOC

I met @sheri42.bsky.social in 2013 via the #ETMOOC group that was meeting on G+. We've connected in many ways since then. I encourage you to view her blog and see the arts & craft projects she shares. They'd make wonderful gifts.

I've been following
@systemswiki.bsky.social
since around 2011, first on LinkedIn. It's fascinating to see what Gene does with systems modeling and how he shares his work and thinking. I think some of my and friends might find this interesting.

You can connect with Gene at linkedin.com/in/systemswiki/

Take a look.

This is a post on BlueSky by Gene Bellinger, @systemswiki.bsky.social that has a video where he shares one of his relationship maps and how he used AI to create it.

I saw this Kumu.io visualization last week & it prompted me to post this on my #Tutor #Mentor blog today. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2025/

I show how I've used visualizations since the 1990s to share strategies and resources and how students and volunteers from any place could be duplicating my presentations, focusing on their own geographic locations.

I've been encouraging my #clmooc & #etmooc educator friends to do this since we met in 2013.

This was posted on the Tutor/Mentor Connection (1993-present); Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC (2011-present) blog on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

The headline: Mapping Strategy. Ideas. Libraries.

The first paragraph reads: "I saw the visualization below last week. It was created using Kumu.io, which I've written about before. In the different nodes it shows places where students from many universities can do volunteer service in organizations working to help refugee, immigrant and LGBTIQ communities. I liked it because of the way it organizes and shares information."

I shared the State of our Youth 2025 report in my #Tutor #Mentor blog, with my own comments. Please read and share w your own articles & videos.

tutormentor.blogspot.com/2025/

If you're an educator this could be independent study for your students! Teach them to do the research AND share the message. #clmooc #etmooc

This week A Better Chicago released a new report titled "State of Chicago Youth, 2025". I show the cover page and a summary page in this 4-5-2025 blog article.

The rise of AI that provides student social/emotional support is the topic of this webinar. It's a scary future. You will be able to watch the webinar at mentorpro.com/webinars/ #clmooc #etmooc

I was part of a ZOOM call last night w educators I met in 2013 via #ETMOOC. I've written often on my #Tutor/#Mentor blog about the potential of #cMooc communities. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2023/05/part... Open the #clmooc, ETMOOC & #dlmooc categories & skim through the articles.

This is a view of the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC blog. Highlighted are tags for posts featuring the #clmooc, #dlmooc, and #etmooc connected learning groups who I first met in 2013 on Twitter.

My long-term goal has been that the ecosystem of youth serving programs would connect in on-going on-line interactions similar to these. So far I'm not seeing it.

I created this in 2012 to show who I was connecting w on Facebook. If I did it now, it would have cluster for #ETMOOC, #CLMOOC, & others. It's part of PDF at www.scribd.com/document/267... So far, many of these friend, family & college groups have not come to Mastodon, Bluesky, or even Twitter.

This is part a 2012 network analysis graphic created by Dan Bassill, founder of Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC in 2011 and Tutor/Mentor Connection in 1993. It shows clusters of 871 people Dan was connected with and how they connect with each other, but that few from one cluster interact with people from other groups.

If I did this in 2025 there would be additional clusters for the ETMOOC and CLMOOC educators Dan has connected with since 2013.

@tutormentor1 @wentale @tdc @nomadwarmachine @cjvallis I know there has been research done over the years on Connected Learning practices - in the classroom and out -- but I am not sure about any look at communities like and maybe and , and how/if folks (or students) remaining connected over time, and what value remains for them. I suspect smaller scale deepens connections of those who remain, and shared interests for intersecting collaborations. Plus, personalities.

2024-12-26

@wentale @tdc @nomadwarmachine @cjvallis

Has research been done showing what motivates some people to seek out on-line communities & affinity spaces, where many others do not?

I don't have exact numbers but suspect that over 1000 were part of 2013's #etmooc, #clmooc & #dlmooc.

How many have stayed connected and in what ways?

How has this identified & solved problems facing the education profession & students?

I've not found anything like this connecting non-school youth programs.

@koutropoulos

I think some of you are already doing this but I recommend building libraries with links to places people meet and share ideas. Link those libraries to each other to create a multi-door navigation. My lists of blogs is at tutormentorexchange.net/resour

It includes many #clmooc #etmooc and #cMOOC writers who I've connected with since late 2000s.

I'm spending more time on BlueSky now. Happy to see #ETMOOC & #CLMOOC folks in one list and #NonProfit people in another.

In this #Tutor #Mentor article I show goals of conferences I hosted in #Chicago from 1994 to 2015. These are also my goals for being on social media.

tutormentor.blogspot.com/2023/

This is article on Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC blog showing goals of conference I hosted for 20 years.

- Draw leaders, volunteers, and stakeholders from more than 150 agencies together for networking and information sharing.

- Draw business and philanthropy partners into ongoing learning and partnership with tutor/mentor leaders

- Provide a vision for comprehensive, long-term mentoring that leads youth to careers

- Build trust and relationships among stakeholders to generate partnerships and information sharing during the months between each conference.

- Build awareness of online learning and networking resources and motivate a growing number of participants to use these tools for capacity improvement

Here's a 2019 article about the Webheads 21-year reunion, which I was part of. learning2gether.net/2019/09/08

One member from Brazil wrote a new book about collaborative learning communities. 1pxo.com/

My friends from #clmooc #etmooc will appreciate the new book, and the Webheads history.

This article is titled "Writing for Webheads 21-year reunion with original members Vance Stevens, Michael Coghlan & Felix Zaniboni, and Dan Bassill.

My 2nd post on the Tutor/Mentor blog, in 2005, focused on the potential of a virtual community. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2005/

In the years since then I've met many wonderful people and found a wide range of ideas that have inspired me and supported my work.

The and communities are just one example.

Yet, with the trouble at Twitter causing people to leave the platform or reducing engagement, and other platforms not having a similar reach, the potential has been greatly diluted.

I hope you'll visit my article and view the visualizations shown at tutormentor.blogspot.com/2024/

Two focus on understanding youth employment/unemployment issues in Botswana and England. The third builds an understanding of people in New Zealand who are working together to solve complex problems.
