Our Emissions Trading Scheme ensures polluters pay for their greenhouse gas emissions and this revenue, through the #InnovationFund, finances the transition to climate neutrality.

By year-end, our Innovation Fund will have secured €6.5 billion for 104 clean tech projects. This has the potential to avoid 470 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂e).

The first slide is titled, “Limiting the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees is critical.# It shows a polar bear on a small iceberg and a graph showing Copernicus data on daily global surface air temperature anomalies. The 2nd slide is titled, “Because above 1.5 degrees, everything changes: more extreme weather, impacts on water availability, food insecurity.

The 4th slide says that the EU emits only 7% of global greenhouse emissions, so the world must reduce emissions steadily and move to net-zero by 2050.

🪂 We cannot survive without air– it should be clean.

While air quality has improved in the last two decades, it is still the largest environmental health risk in Europe.

We are reducing the emissions of major pollutants with EU action:

🔹 The EU Ambient Air Quality Directives,
🔹 The #ZeroPollution Action Plan,
🔹 The National Emission reduction Commitments Directive sets commitments for five major air pollutants.

Russian pipeline imports were reduced from 50% in 2021 to 8% in 2023. LNG imports from non-Russian suppliers increased from 54.4 bcm in 2021 to 98.3 bcm in 2022.

Norway is our main gas supplier, and the United States is our main supplier of LNG.

How did Europe’s gas and electricity prices fall after the highs of last year?

With the war raging on our continent, we had to take measures to protect people from high #energy prices.

- increasing gas reserves,
- saving energy consumption,
- purchasing gas jointly,
working with reliable partners like Norway and the United States,
- Increasing the deployment of renewables across the #EU.
