Fico ‘allows’ Germany, France to aid Ukraine
----------------
If big countries decide to aid Ukraine [fighting Russia], no veto by Slovakia or Hungary can prevent them from doing so, pro-Putin Slovak PM Robert Fico said on the Slovak public radio SRo on Saturday.
Commenting on the outcome of the EU’s emergency summit held in Brussels earlier this week, Fico said he’d wanted ‘any mention’ of the resumption of the Russian gas transit via Ukraine to be included in the summit’s final statement. Unlike his fellow Putin supporter, Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán, Fico joined other EU leaders who voted to boost the bloc’s defence capabilities and continue supporting Ukraine.
“I decided not to prevent Germany, France, or anyone else from sending money,” Fico told SRo, as if he had any power over their decisions.
Fico’s vote at the summit was criticised by his ruling coalition partner, the leader of the nationalist SNS party, Andrej Danko, who won’t admit that Russia is the aggressor in the war in Ukraine.
