Modern TVs have dimming features that can adjust backlight power in specific parts of the screen, sometimes even at the individual pixel level.
We wanted to see whether adapting BBC content could make use of these features and reduce energy consumption.

Picking the right #TV is a minefield at the moment. Most manufacturers are pretty coy about whether their local dimming is "edge lit" or not, and most are pretty coy about how many dimming zones a TV has.
Most people probably won't care but it has huge implications for the quality of experience with their purchase. Some edge-lit experiences are arguably worse.
Since the #HDR standards are essentially useless, most consumers will have no idea what it is they are getting.
