They claimed he was trailed by two dark Hilux vans with no plates. The story came days after the land clash and reports that defence minister backs naval officer.
Police deny any attack on officer
In a statement, spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said no such case was logged. She said, “We have no report of that case in the FCT.” She asked the public to ignore the story and stay calm.
Police also stressed that no officer has filed any attempt report. They said the talk of an assassination plot was only an online rumour. The Command warned that such claims can scare people and hurt trust in security.
What the online report claimed
The online story said Yerima left a fuel station and noticed two vans behind. It claimed the vans were dark Hilux trucks with no number plates. The report added that he used a “strategic move” to shake off the men.
It also said the case was under probe and would get full weight. Readers were told the matter had been sent to top security heads in Abuja. The police now say they have seen no such case at any level.
Command warns against panic and rumours
Adeh urged people in Abuja to stay calm and avoid wild claims. She said false alarm can spread fear and distract from real security work. The clash has drawn views, from critics to reports where Wike denies insulting the officer.
The Command asked residents to call nearby stations or its hotlines when they see strange acts. It listed two phone lines for quick help and said teams would respond fast. Officials also urged people to share clear facts, not fear, when such stories appear
