#FastbackPro

I was delighted to successfully recover 5.4Mb of files contained in #FastbackPro backup format across three 1.44Mb #floppyDisks! The archive was made 28 years ago. Every bit of data was recoverable.

Each disk contained a single file in the format CyymmddB.nnn where C and B are literals, and nnn is a zero-padded sequence number, starting from 1. That turned out to be enough to discover the name of the program used to create the archives.

A photo of a colour TFT screen showing the TUI (fullscreen text user interface) of the "Restore Files" page of the Fastback Pro DOS application. The colour scheme is light blue, dark blue, white and grey with yellow highlights on certain letters of menus and buttons, indicating the keystroke that'll trigger that operation.

The top part of the UI is a log of the restore operation. It shows the following summary:

Restore completed.
Restored 5,453Kbytes in 170 files.
Elapsed time: 00:02:55A screen from the Fastback Pro installer. It's prompting for the name of the user of the program, in order to provide a mechanism for managing different backup profiles.A mobile screenshot of my Nextcloud instance, showing the disk image files and the archive files themselves.
