Any Fedi programmers out there want to make my dream service come true?

#glitchSoc admins -- my search-fu is failing me. can someone point me to a guide for updating the max toot length? I see there's a variable for it now so I'd rather make use of that than change the code but I haven't been able to find how to do that.

Sharkey can change note visibility automatically after a certain amount of time now. The notes do not get deleted, but hidden from view.
(I would acutally prefer deletion to free up storage, but I can see the value in just hiding notes as well.)

So, from now on the visibility of my notes are set to followers only after 1 month, and to private after 3 months.

Edit: The visibility change does not federate however. Which is a bit of a bummer. But my posts will be invisible on my profile page, so remote people who look at that will only see posts up to 1 month old.

For me, microblogging is ephemeral. It's like a conversation, only existing in the moment. Who's recording all their interactions they have with people after all?
(I feel there's a blog in this...)

There are exceptions every once in a while though, where I do want to save a post. Because it's funny, or witty, or holds good information, or has some other value for me. I hope that the good people of Sharkey implement more options for visibility change some time. (Right now the only options are time based.)

What even happened to Mbin & Kbin?

They where both really promising projects but Kbin has 3 servers 2 of which don't accept new sign ups (and doesn't seem to have updates anymore) and Mbin just seems to not be pushing to grow.

https://fedicate.org has now been updated with everyone's new data they've supplied, Thank you.

Along side this we've shipped a basic footer to allow for a better 'end' to the pages.

Will be working on some quality of life features for the platform, any feedback is welcomed so I can improve on it.

Saw this on Reddit r/Fediverse today.

Someone went and created a Marketplace replacement.

Didn't know that existed.

@FediTips is this something you have run into before?

Does anyone know where I can find a spreadsheet or something similar where I can compare features of popular fedi micro-blogging software?

ONE WEEK CODING CHALLENGE LET’S FUCKING GOOO
why no one came up with this before? I mean there was some similar project but it died probably because it was written in suboptimally productive language (Go)?

Could we have a list like feature for hashtags too? So we could cat them and sort them to 'metahashtags' or how we then call it. 🙂

And of course my greatest wish. A Linux native app. 😊

Edit: Forget what I said about the hashtags, just found the feature. 😅

Does Akkoma have a “local timeline” or similar feature?

I think there's a really interesting mastodon fork on kmy.blue . It supports quote posting (compatible with Misskey), reactions, and potentially Markdown as well.

I think it is interesting especially because the quote posting thing is compatible with Misskey which is also then compatible with Threads (if you decide to federate with them that is)

Random #FediSoftware idea: an app which allows people to record their own audio descriptions of films, published to your instance, which comes with a bookmarklet which allows someone to discover and overlay a published track when watching a video on one of the popular sites.

Running a single-user Mastodon instance is really resource intensive (for the server).

Would love to hear about any ideas anyone might have for either streamlining/optimising Mastodon or perhaps another software choice that would be better than Mastodon for a single user, and still allows moving follows/followers... 😬

Feeling in an experimental mood even though I don't really have time 😅
