The group Film Workers for Palestine has released an open letter signed by more than 4,000 people who are pledging not to work with Israeli film institutions that have been "implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people," NBC reports. Some of Hollywood's highest-profile people are signees, including directors Ava DuVernay and Jonathan Glazer, and actors Emma Stone, Joaquin Phoenix, Javier Bardem and Olivia Colman. The organization has made it clear that the pledge does not prohibit people from working with Israeli individuals. "This refusal takes aim at institutional complicity, not identity," the group states. In Hollywood, several people who have spoken out in support of Palestine have been accused of antisemitism and suffered professional consequences — Susan Sarandon was dropped by her agent, while Melissa Barrera lost her role in the "Scream" franchise.
