#FluConf2026

There are many scary things going on in the world, so it's completely understandable if you're finding it difficult to talk about the things that bring you joy.

Even so, if you have something that you're proud of, which you were thinking of sharing anyway, consider doing so as a part of FluConf 2026.

It doesn't need to be big or world-changing. It can simply be a reminder that there are others still taking the time to create things for those around them.

The online event is scheduled for January 31st and February 1st, 2026, and will take place primarily here on the Fediverse.

You can share your proposal any time up until the end of January 30th (two weeks from now) but doing so sooner will allow more time for word to spread about your contribution.

There's still time to submit to #FluConf2026 which is on at the end of this month. It's a safe, virus-free online conference for sharing ideas about Free and Open Source Software and Culture.

Participating in @fluconf is free, and anyone can submit something: a video, an article or blog post, a livestream, a song, a poem or whatever fits the conference themes.

No AI/LLM slop. Just humans sharing ideas.

Two general reminders for #FluConf2026 :

1. We're going to launch a form to accept submissions, but it's not quite ready yet. It will be announced when it's available, so in the meantime please avoid emailing proposals.

2. Our Code of Conduct indicates that we don't accept proposals from employees of organizations engaged in contracts with law enforcement, military, or intelligence agencies. If you aren't sure whether that applies to you, please consult your employer before contacting us.

I'm thinking about possible themes for #FluConf2026, with the current leading contender being "Resilience among failing institutions" or something along those lines.

What do people think?

It's taken me longer to get to this than I had hoped, but #FluConf2026 is under development!

As with the inaugural 2025 edition, FluConf 2026 is being planned as an online alternative to FOSDEM for COVID-cautious people who are involved with or interested in FOSS and free culture.

It will take place on the weekend of January 31st and February 1st, 2026.

Once again, the format will be a bit of an experiment. In the interest of reducing the amount of necessary time and coordination, there will be no call for proposals and review period. If you want to share something for FluConf then you are welcome to do so. As long as your contribution is within the bounds of the Code of Conduct then I'll include it in a curated overview on the FluConf website.

I'm working on updating the website, so more details will be available very soon. In the meantime, start thinking about what you might want to share with the community on the event's dates.

I'm looking for volunteers to help organize next year's FluConf.

If you're interested then please see this brief blog post for more details:

Once we've found a place for those recordings the plan is to:

1. write a retrospective article

2. figure out a reasonable way to coordinate with those who have expressed interest in organizing for #FluConf2026
