Ghostly ship, dark and grim
Slowly comes drifting in
Where did your crew go
And how did you get here, so.
Still afloat yet what dark fate
Visited the crew and the deck mate
No one left at the helm
What steered you here from that darker realm?
Where ships disappear and are never heard
But the cry of a lonely sea bird
Ghost ship, why did you come here
It's a bad omen for men, I do fear.

Looks legit. Wonder where it came from. Apparently after the 2011 Japan tsunami, empty ships would occasionally show up in Washington, having drifted with the currents across the Pacific.

Today in Labor History December 2, 2016: Thirty-six people died in a fire at the Ghost Ship, a converted warehouse in Oakland, California, serving as an artist collective. At the time, the warehouse was hosting a concert. However, the warehouse was zoned for industrial purposes. Residential and entertainment uses were illegal. Of the 80 to 100 people attending the concert, 36 died, making it the deadliest fire in the history of Oakland. The authorities arrested Ghost Ship's master tenant Derick Almena and his assistant Max Harris and charged them with felony involuntary manslaughter. After a series of mistrials, Harris was acquitted. On January 22, 2021, Almena pled guilty to 36 charges of involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. With time served, he was expected to be able to serve his sentence in 18 months of home confinement while wearing an ankle monitor. A building inspector, a Child Protective Services agent, six members of the fire department, and three police officers had been to the building several times, but never mentioned any violations. Building owner, Chor Ng, plead the 5th, and never served any time. PG&E eventually paid some damages, as the fire originated with faulty electrical.

Hmm, also #GhostShip hat eindeutig gute Seiten. Er weiß, dass er R-rated ist, geht also ans Eingemachte. Schauspielerei hab ich auch schon schlechter gesehen, wobei mir Santos mit seinem überzogen gespielten Metaller-Vibe ziemlich auf den Keks geht. Die Story ist ganz nett, und speziell die letzte Szene zauberte mir ein Schmunzeln ins Gesicht (hatte den Twist völlig vergessen. Trotzdem bleibts ein B-Movie, der vor allem unter dem VFX/CGI leidet, das mich leider komplett aus der Stimmung reißt.
Erste Eindrücke:
a) Ich hatte Karl Urbans Beteiligung völlig verdrängt. 😃
b) Meine Güte war das CGI Anfang der 2000er schlecht. 🫣
c) Jetzt weiß ich wo Cixin Liu seine Idee mit den tödlichen Stahlseilen herhatte. 🤔
Weil diese Tage unter #pnpde vermehrt über Horror im Rollenspiel diskutiert wurde, hatte ich mir für den gestrigen #MeerfilmMittwoch 38/25 eigentlich vorgenommen, etwas passendes zu schauen und hole das einfach heute nach: Vor vielen Jahren schon hab' ich mir die DVD zu #GhostShip (USA 2002, R: Steve Beck) ins Regal gestellt. Damals hat mich der Film nicht wirklich gepackt, aber ich finde er hat jetzt eine zweite Chance verdient. Das Setting mag ich jedenfalls heute noch. Es weckt Erinnerungen.
