Finding God’s Steadfastness in the Pause, Overflowing in Generosity

1,202 words, 6 minutes read time

Have you ever felt suspended in a moment, waiting for what seems like an eternity? Whether it’s for an answer to a heartfelt prayer, the healing of a loved one, or simply the unfolding of your next step, the experience of waiting can often feel challenging, even disheartening. In these in-between times, it’s easy to question God’s presence and wonder if He has forgotten us. Yet, within these very moments of pause, lies a profound opportunity to encounter the steadfast faithfulness of our Creator. And as we learn to trust Him in the quiet, a beautiful response blossoms within us: a desire to reflect His generous heart through our own giving.

Scripture:

“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.” (Lamentations 3:25, ESV)

“You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:11, ESV)

Reflection/Teaching:

The scriptures are filled with stories of individuals and entire nations who experienced significant periods of waiting. Abraham patiently awaited the promised heir, his faith tested through decades of longing (Genesis 15-21). The people of Israel cried out for deliverance from slavery in Egypt, their cries eventually met with God’s mighty hand (Exodus). David, anointed as king, endured years of running and hiding before ascending his rightful throne (1 Samuel). Even in the New Testament, Simeon and Anna, with hearts fixed on God’s promise, waited faithfully for the arrival of the Messiah (Luke 2). These accounts remind us that waiting is not foreign to God’s plan; in fact, it often plays a crucial role in the unfolding of His purposes.

During these seasons of waiting, God is not inactive. As many insightful resources like those from Desiring God and Cru point out, these times can be profound opportunities for spiritual growth and a deepening of our reliance on Him. It is in the quiet moments that our character is refined, our understanding of God’s sovereignty expands, and our faith is tested and strengthened. We learn that His timing is not our timing, and His ways are often beyond our comprehension. Yet, His promises remain true, and His faithfulness endures through every delay.

Parallel to this experience of waiting is the transformative power of generosity. Our God is the ultimate giver, showering us with blessings beyond measure (John 3:16). As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect this divine attribute in our own lives. The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, encourages us to give not out of obligation but from a heart that is willing and cheerful (2 Corinthians 9:7). This act of giving, whether it involves our finances, our time, or our talents, is not merely a transaction; it is an act of worship and an acknowledgment of God’s provision in our lives.

The beauty lies in the interconnectedness of these two themes. When we are actively trusting God in our waiting, a spirit of generosity often arises within us. Instead of being consumed by our own needs and desires, we begin to see the needs around us. Giving becomes an expression of our faith – a tangible demonstration that we trust God to provide, even as we pour out what we have to bless others. As organizations like World Vision and Compassion International highlight, our generosity has the power to meet practical needs and to be a powerful testament to God’s love in the world. By focusing outward in generosity, we can find a deeper sense of purpose and even a measure of joy amidst our own seasons of waiting.

Application:

Consider the areas in your life where you are currently in a season of waiting. Instead of allowing anxiety or doubt to take root, actively choose to anchor yourself in the promises of God. Spend time in prayer and in His Word, reminding yourself of His past faithfulness. Simultaneously, look for opportunities to extend generosity to those around you. Perhaps it’s a financial gift to a ministry you believe in, volunteering your time to a cause close to your heart, or simply offering a word of encouragement to someone in need. Let your acts of giving be a living testament to your trust in God’s provision and a reflection of His generous spirit.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unwavering faithfulness that sustains us through every season, especially in times of waiting. Forgive us for the moments when doubt creeps in and we lose sight of Your steadfast love. Strengthen our hearts to trust in Your perfect timing and grant us the courage to wait with hope and expectation. Lord, we also ask for a generous spirit, that we may freely and joyfully give as You have so abundantly given to us. Open our eyes to the needs around us and equip us to be Your hands and feet in a world that longs for Your love. May our waiting be marked by a deepening trust in You, and our lives be characterized by a generous outpouring of Your grace. Amen.

Closing Thoughts or Call to Action:

Remember, dear friend, that the pause is not a period of abandonment but an opportunity for God’s power to be revealed in your life. As you wait with expectant faith, allow the wellspring of God’s generosity to overflow through you. Embrace the joy of giving, knowing that in doing so, you are not only blessing others but also deepening your own connection with the heart of God.

Discover the Life-Changing Joy of Generosity: How Giving Blesses You Back!

809 words, 4 minutes read time.

The blessings of generosity transform both the giver and the receiver. 🌟 This AI-generated image beautifully captures the spirit of giving, reflecting the joy and warmth that comes with selflessness.

Reflection/Teaching:

The Generosity Journey: When God Can Trust You He Will Bless You

Generosity is a central theme in Scripture. Jesus himself embodied the perfect model of generosity, not just through His actions, but through His very life. In Luke 6:38, we are given a profound principle: when we give, we are not only blessing others but also receiving God’s blessings in return. But these blessings don’t always come in the forms we might expect.

Often, we think of blessings as material rewards, like a bigger paycheck or a new car. While God may choose to bless us in these ways, the true blessings of generosity often come in more subtle forms—peace, joy, and spiritual growth. Generosity allows us to connect with God’s heart, revealing His nature as a loving and giving Father.

One example of generosity comes from the early church in Acts 20:35, where Paul reminds us of Jesus’ words: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” There is a joy that transcends material wealth when we give freely and willingly. The act of giving draws us closer to God, because it reflects the very character of Christ—selfless, sacrificial, and loving.

When we are generous, we acknowledge that all we have is a gift from God. This opens our hearts to see the needs of others and to meet them with joy, rather than with reluctance or obligation. In doing so, we fulfill the command to love our neighbors as ourselves, and in turn, experience God’s love in new and deeper ways.

Application:

So, how can we embrace generosity in our daily lives? First, we must begin with a heart check. Are we holding tightly to our possessions, or are we open to giving? Generosity isn’t just about money—it’s also about our time, talents, and service to others.

Start small. Look for opportunities to give: perhaps a meal for a neighbor, a few extra minutes to help someone, or a kind word to lift someone’s spirits. If you’re already in the habit of giving, ask God how you can stretch yourself and give in even greater ways.

Another key application is to be intentional in your giving. Don’t wait for a “perfect” moment or for circumstances to be just right. The act of giving is an act of faith. Trust that as you give, God will meet your needs. Proverbs 3:9-10 teaches us to honor the Lord with our wealth, and in doing so, God promises to bless us abundantly.

Generosity also requires a mindset of contentment. Paul, in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, emphasizes that God loves a cheerful giver. It’s not about how much we give, but the spirit in which we give. When we give cheerfully, we reflect the heart of God and experience the joy that comes with giving.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your generosity toward me. You have given me life, love, and every good gift. Help me to reflect Your heart in my own giving. Teach me to be generous not only with my money, but also with my time, talents, and love. Give me a heart that delights in blessing others and a trust that You will provide for all my needs. May my generosity be a reflection of Your goodness and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing Thoughts:

Generosity is not just an action—it’s a lifestyle. As we give, we are invited to experience the joy and blessing that God promises to those who generously pour out their love on others. Remember, when you give, it will be given back to you—pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing.

This is a reminder about the value of occasionally doing a nice and unselfish deed for a random stranger, with no expectation of reward or return. Pay it Forward.

It could be monetary, but it doesn’t have to be. Examples include:
^ the person in front of you at the grocery store is short a couple of dollars and you can spare that much, so you pay the difference for them
^ a shopper is struggling to get an item from a high (or low) shelf, and you can easily reach it for them
^ tell someone they can go ahead of you in a queue, especially if your transaction is going to be complex and theirs isn’t
^ find something to compliment someone on (I really like your shoes, your bracelet, your smile - but don’t be creepy!)
^ offer to keep an eye on a table for someone who is on their own, while they nip to the toilet
^ check someone is okay if they look like they’ve broken down on the side of the road and it is safe to stop
^ spend five minutes listening to someone who needs a shoulder, so they can feel like their burden is lighter for a while.

If you do a deed and someone offers to repay you, ask them to pay it forward instead. This empowers some people to accept help because they will have the opportunity to repay it, albeit to someone else. Any forward payment should be on their own terms, not set by you. It might be years before they are ready or able to do so and that is okay. Also the type of payment might take a different form. It’s totally up to them.

It will hopefully give both the giver and receiver a lovely buzz and make the world a slightly happier place.

And a reminder. For people to give, someone has to be comfortable to receive. Sometimes, you need to be in the receiver’s position. Don’t be so proud that you can’t accept a gift yourself. You are free to pay it forward if and when you are in a position to do so.

Which wound do you have?

Do you have to give to other people because if you don't they won't like you?

Or are you more like me not wanting to give because people might take everything from you?

We all have one of these wounds in some way.

Powerlessness made me defensive and worried that other people would take my power from me by overriding me all the time. I see the wound and so now I'm just working out how it affects my interactions with others and shifting my behavior in the process.

Can you see this within yourself yet?

How is it playing out in your life?

What are you doing with it?

I can help when you're ready to sort out this imbalance by finding the behaviors and shifting them. I promise there's a wound back there that's asking to be healed. I can help you find it and heal it too.

Shifting these imbalances is an important part of healing. It's not about being perfect. It's just about improving it so that we can feel a little better within ourselves. That's where private coaching can help.
