Transverse #Flute
ca. 1720–40
Garion (French)
[Not on view]
a late example of 3-joint design pioneered by #Hotteterre family during the 17thC. Making flutes w separate joints instead of in one piece allowed makers to have greater control over tapering of the internal bore profile, which improved intonation & response...this flute lacks #Baroque-style decorative balusters&beads of Hotteterre-type flutes, basic layout & tonehole placement mirrors that of H's instruments.
