Eight Hall of Famers and my favorite player.

Not my favorite categories; in fact, several of my least favoriteβ€”silver slugger, gold glove, rookie of year, 3000+ hits. Restrictive. Still, not a terrible grid.

Shoutouts: Minnie MiΓ±oso, Vic Power, Leo Cardenas, Joey Votto, Johnny Edwards, Buck Leonard, Buck O’Neil, Mule Suttles, Branch Rickey, & Jackie Robinson.

All over the place today. Some nice picks, some too obvious. But, I mean, how do you not pick Gorman Thomas?

It’ll do. Enjoy your Fridays!

Cheers!

Two father-son OF combos, a brother OF combo, and a mixed bag in the Red Sox column.

Minimum Reds nonsense, just Nick Esasky.

Haven’t used Fergie Jenkins in a while, but I have been a Rick Wise guy recently.

Shoutouts: Babe Ruth, Dennis Eckersley, Jack Clark, Travis Jankowski, Bip Roberts, Larry Biitner, Ken Griffey Sr., and Kal Daniels.

Travel day, so just getting to the grid. Reds and Phillies, so a bit overwhelmed with options. 6 Redsβ€”all but Foxx, Joltin’ Joe, and Person.

Love using brothers, so matched Joe with Vince.

Gary Redus in center square!!!

Shoutouts: Scott Rolen, Midre Cummings, J.A. Happ, Dave Parker, Erik Kratz, Reggie Sanders, Ron Gant, Andrew McCutcheon, and Barry Bonnell.

Late in the day again. Nice grid, despite the Astros-ness of it. Tony Eusebio really was the first Astros catcher I could think of. Weird, but kind of love it. Didn’t do the obvious Reds nonsense of Eddie Taubensee or Alex TreviΓ±o.

Bobo, Moe, and Pop are useful old B&W favorites.

Carlos Lee was really too obvious, but eventually remembered Floyd Bannister.

Man, really late to the party tonight, so just a quick grid. All over the map.

Father-Son Bonds. Ruth and Maris for more HR champ vibes. Leibold & Rice from the 1924 Champions.

Butera & Youngblood are Reds nonsense.

Once again, Pascual Perez almost got lost on the way to this grid.

Cheers!

Minimum of Reds nonsense today, just Bruce Berenyi and Bucky Walters.

Old favorites Maxwell and Lolich and Slim Jones.

Saw talk recently about how underrated Sid Fernandez was; the stat was cherry-picked, but the premise was true enough. (Only guy with at least 300 GS and less than 700 ER, sure, but he was at 300/696. Fun facts often lie.)

Shout: Frank Tanana!

Six Reds and three Negro Leaguers.

Not much thought in this one except remembering Dempster instead of just using Tom Seaver.

Shoutouts to usual suspects: Charlie Leibrandt, Frank Tanana, Micky Lolich, Fergie Jenkins, Bobo Newsome, Dolf Luque, Mario Soto, Gaylord Perry, and Satchell Paige.

Another quick grid, even pre-coffee and it went okay. Helps that a bunch of old favorites fit today. Gorman and Gaylord! Bo Knows!

Tomko and Hurdle and Leibrandt are my Reds nonsense; Ken Williams was also a Red but better known as the first 30-30 guy.

Dizzy played only one game with the St.Louis Browns, but he’s Dizzy so 2%.

Shoutout: Bruce Chen!

Another (mostly) First Thoughts Grid.

Rick Wise and Tony Armas were my actual first thoughts, but I wanted more Reds, so Jefferson and Wily Mo!

More The Mayor!

Almost used Wohlford last week, so happy to scratch that itch.

Nap at 6%! Excellent. I am curious if the much better Paul Waner is more or less rare than little brother Lloyd.

Cheers!

Christmas in June!

Gary Matthewsβ€”father and son. Double-checked that dad had 100 runs, but it was 1984 and I’m guessing Andre Dawson was having his MVP season behind Senior in the lineup.

Happy to survive the D’backs row thanks to Reds nonsense. Also, entire 2000+ Hits row is old Reds!

Shoutouts: Felipe Lopez, Mike Vail, Larry Biitner, and Hacks Stan & Wilson.

All Phillies Grid!

7 were Phillies while I was living in Philly. Franco was well before then and Matt Moore was a bit after my time there.

Kevin Stocker was the SS when I moved there and then got traded to Tampa for Bobby Abreu. They both later ended up Angels.

Saw Robert Person get a W and hit 2HR (and just foul of a 3rd), 7 RBI. June 2, 2002 vs. Montreal.

β€œI’m sorry Dave . . .” An all Dave Grid!

Started with the 300+HR column and they were all obvious. So I kept going!

Second game I went to was a LaPoint shutout for the White Sox. Easy peasy! My Reds foolishness got me Revering and Collins. Righetti came to me because the Yankees were there.

Last two I cheated my butt off. I remember them both vaguely.

Didn’t feel like messing around today. Straight up stars. Gaylord & Fergie are screamingly obvious in those two spots and some days you just go with the flow and let Cardinal/All-Star be Ozzie Smith.

A little Reds nonsense with Eric Davis, Jeff Russell, and Johnny Vander Meer (of back-to-back no hitters fame). Mathewson played one game as a Red too.

Cheers!

The Mayor is very popular. Wonder what Sean Casey scored in the Reds/Cleveland box?

Almost went all B&W for the Reds, but was talking about The Mayor yesterday and decided to go newer guys. Good excuse to use Jung Bong.

Firpo & By were on the 1924 Champions.

Alex Carrasquel was Chico’s uncle. Chico’s nephew Cris ColΓ³n was also in MLB.

Shoutout Ricky Karcher!

Huh. Was doing an All-Rookie of the Year Grid, but discovered that no Rookie of the Year winner ever played 2B for the Mets.

Anyway, 8 Rookies of the Year and Joel Youngblood. 6 won it with the Dodgers, Robinson with the Reds, and Gunnar with the Orioles obviously.

Shoutouts: Carlos Baerga, Chris Sabo, Fernando Valenzuela, Steve Sax, and Jackie Robinson.

The LF column is all Reds; Reggie Sanders too.

Watched a lot of bad Braves teams on WTBS. Bob Horner was one of the few good players, so him instead of former-Red Ron Gant. Similar fond memories of the Mad Hungarian Al Hrabosky.

Al Oliver was terrific and clearly well remembered. Onix was a Pirate for 1 game!

Pascual almost got lost on the way to the grid.

Took a couple of Hacks at the grid today. Wilson and Stan.

A little Reds nonsense: Stynes, McCracken, and Braggs. Considered Dave Parker in center square but stuck with Randolph. Pleased to remember Jose Reyes was briefly a Rockie.

Slim Jones again. His 1934 Philadelphia Stars season was astounding. After he blew out his arm they tried him at 1B & OF.

Cheers!
