On the last track (part 2), which closes the album out with a retrofuturistic slickness with its home-organ percussion and (cl/f)unky guitar, before ending in a single Moog note, and just like that, it's over.

Anyway, the new #Stereolab album is a tour de force, pretty much a solid hour of the groop at their peak. Go get it.

9 tracks in and there are no duds; this album keeps surpassing itself in grooviness, with the dopamine hits coming with every key change, buildup, breakdown. I think #Stereolab have done a #Slowdive here and outdone the first, legendary phase of their career. #InstantHologramsOnMetalFilm

Track 8 ("Transmuted Matter"), meanwhile, starts in a restrained and sophisticated mode, like the incidental music on a modernistic space station from a 70s film, all syncopated beats, electric piano chords and muted guitar. #InstantHologramsOnMetalFilm #Stereolab

Track 7 ("Electrified Teenybop") kicks off with a somewhat fuzzy synth arpeggio over a motorik beat, and builds from there, as a fast-paced instrumental workout, a ride down the autobahn in fast forward. #InstantHologramsOnMetalFilm #Stereolab

Track 5 ("Vermona F Transistor") is along similar lines, though keeps the vocals all the way through, getting groovier and more driving as it progresses. 6 ("Le Coeur Et La Force") is somewhat more mellow, though has some funky moments á la Can. #InstantHologramsOnMetalFilm #Stereolab

Track 4 ("Immortal Hands") does a similar thing: starts off as a slow-burning minor-key ballad, and halfway through picks up and heads to the light-up dancefloor of the disco for a while. And then come the brass and string machines like something out of a blaxploitation soundtrack. #InstantHologramsOnMetalFilm #Stereolab

Seriously, Melodie Is A Wound is a killer track. 7:37, starting off as a classic Dust/Dots/Cobra-era 'Lab track, and then going off into a run of chord changes, groovy beats and fuzz guitar. 😘👌 #InstantHologramsOnMetalFilm #Stereolab

Track 3 ("Melodie Is a Wound") and we're firmly in Sound-Dust/Dots & Loops territory (synth arpeggios notwithstanding).

This track is so far a highlight: it's got the groovy melodies and Laetitia singing about the depredations of capitalism or similar. It's like they never left.
And then, halfway through, it shifts gear to something a bit more mellow and psychedelic. #InstantHologramsOnMetalFilm #Stereolab

The album kicked off with some nice synth arpeggios ("Mystical Plosives") before going into a classic Laetitia song, with organ/harpsichord-like keys and a motorik beat ("Aerial Troubles") #InstantHologramsOnMetalFilm #Stereolab
