Caltech researchers have developed biohybrid robotic jellyfish for ocean exploration, equipped with electronics and a streamlined "hat" to gather crucial oceanic data. Led by John Dabiri, the team aims to deepen our understanding of climate change impacts. These jellyfish swim up to 4.5 times faster than their natural counterparts, This increased their swimming speed from about 2 to 6 centimeters (0.8 to 2.4 in) per second and cost only $20 each. presenting a cost-effective alternative to traditional research vessels, which can incur operational costs exceeding $50,000 per day.
