I can think of many better uses for £1 billion of public money. The parent company would have got F all if British Steel had gone into liquidation. Sod the debts to the parent company. It seems to me an accounting trick to, yet again, transfer public wealth to private hands.

Something’s slightly wrong here. British Steel owned by the Chinese company, Jingye. I’m not against international cooperation, but China isn’t exactly top of our friendly country list. Steel production’s a pretty important industry, and we shouldn’t be relying on China. In a quote from “Blackadder” it’s like putting your “John Thomas” in the hands of a lunatic with a pair of scissors.
