One can send their post or enjoy the view over #Koltur while waiting for a bus no 5 or Saturday-only route 7 (connecting #Kirkjubøur with #Kollafjørður). And they're free, thanks to the local community council.

The bus stop at Gerðisbreyt in #Velbastaður

Today we visit the small village of Kirkjubøur in the Faroe Islands for today's #PhotoOfTheDay.
In the foreground is the 12th century Olavskirkjan (St Olav's Church), the oldest church in the Faroe Islands, and behind it are the ruins of the Magnus Cathedral and Kirkjubøargarður, a wooden farmhouse built in the 11th century.

In the foreground is a small whitewashed stone church. From this angle there is a single small rectangular window set high in the wall of the church. Atop the building is a wooden tower which also contains a window but it has a red shutter closed across it.
Behind the church is the ruin of a medieval cathedral. All that largely remains are the stone walls and as part of a conservation project there is a protective shield on the top of the walls.
To the far left of the image is a wooden farmhouse with a turf roof and red painted window frames.
Behind all these buildings is a grass covered slope leading to a cliff face.
