Oooh... actually we were so focused on the plot of the story we're creating (our writing group, cactus di fuoco, is also giving us a hand of help!), that we didn't even think about the possibility of L.

An unbalanced or insufficient diet can cause a pistrix to completely change their appearance. The color of a pistrices' fins and mane is primarily due to natural molecules called carotenoids, such as astaxanthin, which are introduced into their bodies through the consumption of carotenoid-rich animals, primarily krill, which in healthy specimens constitute nearly 90% of their diet.

A specimen that hasn't been able to consume their adequate amount of crustaceans will rapidly lose the color in their fins, but that's not the only side effect: to function in the frigid depths where they live, pistrices must consume fatty foods, such as crustaceans, and limiting this will make the individual much slimmer.

Almost always, a malnourished specimen is unable to maintain their full body length, which requires a constant supply of calories, and will autotomize, losing part of their tail through self-detachment. Specimens with an incomplete diet will therefore have pink fins, rather than carmine red, slimmer bodies, and almost always lack a caudal fin. If the incorrect diet persists, the fin rays can suffer structural damage, becoming droopy, rather than erect.

The interesting thing is that pistrices can actually transform so drastically, like from Lysandre to L, in a completely natural way: with nutrition.

The most beautiful man you've ever seen isn't a man. He's a silver fish, with carmine fins, and a body like a reflective ribbon stretching into the abyss.

And we even came up with names for them! (Normally, when we "transport" characters into our AUs, we tend to change their names, since we already know the characters will change until they become completely unrecognizable OCs... so they're a bit like "Schrödinger characters," both fan-characters and canon until we "open the box," or in this case, until the book arrives).

Merman!Lysandre will be Sangreal (he already has a page! https://fantasydiario.blogspot.com/2025/12/character-sangreal.html ), while Professor Sycamore becomes Professor Seraphin Panorme, a marine biologist. You can think of it as two AUs: one where they are alternate versions of Lysandre and Professor Sycamore, and one where they are alternate versions of the alternate versions (and don't worry, we'll be working on both! Both Merman!Lysandre and Sangreal will just have more or less the same design, despite having separate identities. We guess? It's blurry, we'll see case to case).

We should start writing their story soon (fingers crossed!), and we promise it will be... absolutely epic.

Ended up coloring the sketch of wyrdle's Future Paradox L. Accompanied, of course, by Zygardog. Aww, together for 3000 years, a man and his dog (well, a dog and its man is more correct in this case).

It's an extremely intriguing AU, and the original author posted some incredible comics, so... read them, especially if you're looking for some positivity and hope (someone called it "hopemaxxing," I think? And that's a perfect term) for the future.
