#MIB2

Got this USB wireless #AndroidAuto adaptor as I was fed up with having the USB cable trailing across the car into the passenger footwell (where the phone is in or on top of one of my kit bags) - it works quite well and doesn't even seem to randomly disconnect as much!

Might not be the most secure thing (and curiously you have to connect to the devices Bluetooth but then it transfers the signal to the #MIB2 connection just like using the cable!) but it creates a 5 GHz rather than 2,4 GHz wifi SSID so not going to go that far, and its only going to display the navi app from a bright red car that you would likely already be able to see in order to receive the wifi signal..

Always a bit nerve-wracking doing this - I had to sacrifice the contents of the SD-card which was a load of music (I have it backed up elsewhere) for the #VW #MIB2 #firmware update - but it all went through OK - it does seem Android Auto is disconnecting and resetting less on the new firmware but this might only be because I'm keeping an eye on the device battery levels - it tends to act up when the phone reaches 80% charge which I've set on "battery care" - lots of #cars have the same problem (not only VW) and neither the manufacturers nor #Google seem to be able to stop it.

I've got the car's built in #navi as a backup (but I don't get speed warnings nor real time traffic, as VW abandoned this service after 3G was ceased in many countries)

I updated the infotainment firmware on my #VW #Polo #MIB2 system (it is a Technisat Preh, there are multiple variants in the same car model!) - this is a somewhat cursed job as it *only* works via the SD-card (I tried with USB but got errors), then the ODB2 scanner has to be plugged in to clear off 2 codes (to confirm the software change) #cars

Selecting a release of new firmwareWarning that the update can take 60 minutes to complete (you need enough battery power to complete this without starting the engine as that will dip the battery voltage and cause problems)system is unzipping the data from the SD-cardnow complete with the update (from firmware version 0138 to 0140, my head unit won't accept newer versions as its from 2015)
