So here’s the Future of Football commemorative T-shirt they were giving away at the #Toronto #Argonauts game today. It features at total of six Doug Flutie action poses — three as an Argonaut, three as a #Buffalo #Bills pivot. One size fits most; one to a customer.

Like a lot of Argos fans, I was shocked when this #MLSE - Bills partnership was announced a few weeks ago. There’s a long read in here somewhere; one of these days I wouldn’t mind taking a whack at it.

Today was Fan Appreciation Day at BMO Field, which was welcome after this year’s miserable game-day experience due to World Cup-related construction there. It was also Future of Football day, marking the partnership between the #Toronto #Argonauts, #MLSE, and the #Buffalo #Bills to increase youth participation in football. Former Bills quarterback Jim Kelly (yes, Chad’s uncle) and former Argos (among other places) pivot Doug Flutie appeared at field level at halftime. #CFL #PullTogether

Pelley is making a concerted effort here — understandably so — to frame these rule changes as a benefit to the players, to the fans, and to the Canadian game as a whole. The timing of the league’s announcement is, however, a little disconcerting, coming as it does less than two weeks after #MLSE announced its marketing partnership with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills; it will do little to lower the raised hackles of Double Blue diehards.

2/5 Like any organization, the need to evolve to meet the challenges of a changing landscape is constant, and earlier today, the CFL and Commissioner Stewart Johnston announced a number of rule changes, to be phased in over the next two seasons, to modernize the CFL and ensure it continues to grow and appeal to new fans.

Fun fact: Keith Pelley was the president of the #Toronto #Argonauts back in the day, long before he ultimately became president of #MLSE, so I have to imagine he felt responsible on multiple levels for sending this letter to us season-ticket holders about the bombshell Canadian Football League rule changes that league commissioner Stewart Johnston announced earlier today.

As much as I appreciate getting the word early from the #Toronto #Argonauts by way of #MLSE, it’s still disappointing to hear that our 2026 season tickets will only give us six home games, plus one nominal “home” game in Hamilton. They’re also backloading the schedule, apparently “until the FIFA World Cup concludes and BMO Field is retrofitted back to #CFL standards”. #PullTogether #BlameFIFA
