Celebrating the birth of Maud Lewis (1901) today
For Today's #ArtHistory and #Archaeology #AI mashup, I imagined what Canadian artist #MaudLewis might have painted if she had seen the Wild Jungle Fowl, the progenitor of our white, nondescript chicken. Lewis (1903-1970) resided in a tiny house in Nova Scotia and spent much of her life decorating the interior of her home. Like many self-taught artists, Lewis painted her immediate daily life, emphasizing farming. #Chickens were domesticated from the wild jungle fowl at least 3,000 years ago, moving from where they originated in Polynesia. Visited the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia this morning and got caught up on the life story of Maud Lewis. Then lunch on the boardwalk, including a stop for Cows ice cream, after which we strolled over to the Maritime Museum. A great day.
