Residents refused to work, shop or go to school to demand that ICE leave the city and be held accountable for its intimidation and violence.
The coordinated strike shut hundreds of businesses and sent a huge crowd into downtown streets in subzero temperatures, where marchers chanted against ICE’s heavy federal enforcement and the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent.
Protesters pressed aggressively for an end to the agency’s presence in Minnesota and a halt to what they call bullying and unconstitutional tactics.

Critics say ICE treats immigrants like criminals, transferring them between facilities in ways that delay court hearings to extend their detention, and ultimately break them into accepting deportation.“
