Round 1 match 2 of #OreCup25 is molybdenite versus tetrahedrite.

I have to give Molybdenite the physics vote (as source of Re used for geochronology, as a source of Mo used as a catalyst, battery electrodes, alloys of iron & semiconductors),

But Tetrahedrite gets physics points for being thermoelectric (it can be used turn heat into electricity) & some arts points as a historically important ore of copper.

A large, very rich specimen of sharp, modified Tetrahedrite crystals from Peru. These crystals, often intergrown or sprinkled with showy brassy Chalcopyrite, measure to .9 cm along the edge. The Tetrahedrites have superb luster and have fascinating modifications on the faces and edges. All rest on massive Sphalerite, and there are several large, intergrown via WikipediaMolybdenite on quartz Locality : Moly Hill mine, La Motte, Abitibi RCM, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Québec, Canada Size : 5.5 x 3 x 3 cm via Wikipedia
