Competition: win a recycled plastic Fiber Chair from Muuto

For our latest competition, we've teamed up with Danish furniture brand Muuto to offer readers the chance to win a Fiber Chair in a colour and base of their choice.

Originally launched in 2014, Muuto has released a recycled plastic version of its Fiber Chair as part of a drive to create more sustainable products using reused raw materials.

In celebration of the new generation of Muuto chairs, one lucky Dezeen reader will win a Fiber Armchair or Side Chair in their choice of base and colour.

Muuto has launched a recycled plastic version of its Fiber Chair

Designed by Copenhagen studio Iskos-Berlin, the Fiber Chair was conceived as a "modern yet timeless" take on a classic shell chair.

"One of the most difficult and noble disciplines of design is to create simple, well-functioning, and almost ordinary objects that nevertheless have a strong identity," said Iskos-Berlin. "We designed the Fiber Chair to do just that through a clear sculptural language that refuses to compromise on comfort."

The shell of the Fiber chair is made from a composite of plastic and wood fibres, which gives it a distinct surface with a soft, matte touch.

80 per cent of the plastic used is recycled from post-industrial waste from the manufacturing of eyewear.

"It is a chair stripped of all unnecessary layers," the studio explained. "The iconic form marries soft, embracing curves with an innovative wood fibre composite, giving the Fiber Chair a unique expression and tactile texture."

The chair is available in Muuto's signature colours, including Black, Dusty Green, Grey, Ochre and White. Customers can choose from an oak, metal, or swivel base.

Other products by Muuto include the solid oak top 70/70 table by Swedish architecture and design studio TAF, which balances "simple Scandinavian aesthetics" with the warmth of layered wood, and the Outline Daybed by Norwegian studio Anderssen & Voll, which is distinguished by its "understated yet characterful proportions".

The brand is also known for its adaptable workplace products, including Danish designer Thomas Bentzen's Linear System Series, a range of tables, lighting, screens, and trays that have been designed to fit as comfortably in an office as they do a hospitality venue.

Founded in 2006, Muuto is a Danish design company "rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition characterised by enduring aesthetics, functionality, craftsmanship and an honest expression".

With showrooms across the globe, the brand aims to deliver new perspectives on Scandinavian design through its use of diverse materials and techniques.

Muuto relaunches Fiber Chair with recycled plastic shell

Promotion: Danish furniture brand Muuto has released a recycled plastic version of its Fiber Chair designed by Copenhagen studio Iskos-Berlin.

Muuto originally launched the chair in 2014, and its reintroduction is part of a drive to create more sustainable products using reused raw materials.

Muuto has launched a recycled plastic version of its Fiber Chair

"The Fiber Chair is one of our most popular designs, a modern yet timeless chair," said Muuto.

"Taking the leap from virgin to recycled plastic in its production feels like an ambitious starting point in becoming more circular in our consumption of raw material."

The shell chair is now made from a combination of recycled plastic of which 80 per cent is recycled

Designed by Iskos-Berlin, the Fiber Chair was created as a modern take on a classic archetypal shell chair.

"One of the most difficult and noble disciplines of design is to create simple, well-functioning, and almost ordinary objects that nevertheless have a strong identity," said Iskos and Berlin.

The recycled plastic shell is mixed with FSC certified wood fibres to create a matt and tactile surface

"We designed the Fiber Chair to do just that through a clear sculptural language that refuses to compromise on comfort," it continued.

"It is a chair stripped of all unnecessary layers. The iconic form marries soft, embracing curves with an innovative wood fiber composite, giving the Fiber Chair a unique expression and tactile texture."

The chair's shell is made from a composite of plastic and wood fibres, which gives it a matt finish and distinct appearance.

80 per cent of the plastic used is recycled from post-industrial waste from the manufacturing of glasses.

The blend of recycled plastic and wood fibres intends to give the chair a unique look with "a fine aesthetic detail making the design come alive with tactility".

Muuto's relaunched chair is available in the exact same colour range as the original chair, including Black, Dusty Green, Grey, Ochre and White with options of oak, metal and swivel bases.

"We at Muuto continuously question our approach and methods to arrive at new perspectives on Scandinavian design," said Muuto.

"The new version of the Fiber Chair in recycled plastic is the result of a challenge we posed to ourselves – to reimagine the way we work with recycled plastic."

"To create something strong and durable from recycled materials that could match our distinctive color palette and endure daily wear and tear. This complex yet thrilling challenge led us into novel fields of research, inspiring us to develop a new composite material in the process."

Competition: win a table lamp, tray and desktop by Muuto

Dezeen has teamed up with Danish furniture brand Muuto for our latest competition, which offers readers the chance to win essential products for their home office.

Muuto's essential products for the home office and office spaces include lamps, trays, and desktops, which are designed to create "a perfect creative and productive atmosphere".

Muuto believes in creating designated working areas in home interiors, "from which we can emerge at the end of the workday and return to the comfort of being, and feeling, at home".

"Keeping our desk space uncluttered is a vital part of working from home that allows us to focus on the work at hand," said the brand.

One reader will win a Muuto Linear Table Lamp, Restore Tray and Arrange Desktop configuration in a colour of their choice.

Big Game wanted to create a flexible desktop that allows people to organise their belongings on a desk or shelf

The Linear Table Lamp designed by Thomas Bentzen intends to give interiors an elegant feel. The dimmable light can be placed in any setting and references traditional library lights.

The lamp features a USB-C plug, which can be used to charge other electronic devices such as phones, and is available in Grey and Black.

The Linear Table Lamp is designed to reference traditional library lamps

"The Linear Lamp Series is designed from the idea of creating smaller atmospheres through modern light, bringing a sense of intimacy to larger spaces," said Thomas Bentzen.

"Use the Linear Lamp Series for any space in need of modern, functional lighting that can be adjusted to the exact purpose of your space."

The Linear Table Lamp comes in Black or Grey

The winner will also receive a Restore Tray created by Mika Tolvanen.

The tray can hold home office products such as stationery and brings a new perspective to modern storage. It is available in Grey, Midnight Blue, Black, Black Mélange, and Dusty Green.

The Restore Tray created by Mika Tolvanen is included as a prize

"I wanted for the Restore Series to have a humble character, allowing for it to easily fit into any environment," said Mika Tolvanen.

"With its felt material made using fibers from recycled plastic bottles, the Restore Series has a curious and inviting expression while its corner slits bring a distinct look and added functionality to the design."

The Restore Tray comes in a range of different colours

The winner will also win the Arrange Desktop Series by Big Game, designed to bring "functionality and elegance" to the home workplace.

The desktop is made with recycled plastic and its lids are crafted in anodized aluminum and cork.

"With its trays made in 93 per cent recycled plastic and lids in cork and aluminum, the Arrange Desktop Series brings a forward-thinking perspective to modern storage."

One reader will win a Muuto Linear Table Lamp, Restore Tray, and an Arrange Desktop configuration in the colour of their choice.

Competition: create and win your own customised Fiber chair from Muuto

Dezeen has teamed up with Danish furniture brand Muuto for our latest competition, which offers readers the chance to make and win their own customised Fiber chair.

The Fiber chair family is designed by Iskos-Berlin for Muuto and was originally launched in 2015. Its injection-moulded wood-fibre shell is recyclable and is a new perspective on the classic shell chair due to its soft, matt finish due to the wood fibers.

By entering into our latest competition, one lucky reader will win a Fiber chair in the colour and finish of their choice.

The competition closes on 10 October

Created by Copenhagen designers Aleksej Iskos and Boris Berlin, the Fiber chair takes the form of the classic shell chair, but reimagines it in a recyclable composite of plastic and up to 25 per cent wood fibres.

Although invisible to the eye from afar, the details of the wood fibres are revealed when viewing the design up-close and the material has a distinctive and pleasantly soft, matt feel.

The chair has a simple and sculptural form. Its slender profile takes up little space in the room, yet its seat still feels generous.

The Fiber chair takes the form of the classic shell chair

"Rather than making a chair that had a loud and interrupting expression, we wanted to perfect the design in a subtle way, ticking off the boxes of shape, comfort, materials, and aesthetic," said Iskos-Berlin of the design.

To support circularity, the Fiber chair can be disassembled at the end of its life, with its shell and base recycled separately. The shell is recyclable and can be used in the production of new Fiber chair shells.

Today, the Fiber chair family includes many different typologies, including armchairs, side chairs, bar and counter stools, stools and lounge chairs in a wide range of bases, finishes, colours, and upholsteries.

To navigate the different options, Muuto introduced a Fiber chair configurator that allows customers to visualise all of the possibilities available to them and tailor the design to suit their own individual tastes and space.

Competition closes on 10 October 2021. Terms and conditions apply. One winner will be selected at random and notified by email.
