Okay, after a period of seven shows in nine days, we got a nice bit of down time enforced by a bunch of snow and ice, so I'm back to the league. (And need to get going with this thing, since in game time, we're on May 16 of last year.)
I have finally figured out how to adjust the expected stats, and now have a better idea of how to tune the league. This is dangerous, of course, because you can be damn sure I will keep twiddling until it's just right. The idea was to crank the hits way down - the league was hitting .283 - and the triples and home runs up a little, as I'm not a fan of the swing-from-the-heels-at-every-damn-thing approach that is common today...but 1.63 HR/game is probably too low. (I think current day is something like 2.2 HR/G.)
This fine tuning did cause us to drop two in a row to gaddamned Ottawa of all teams, so I was somewhat chagrined at getting it right. The Orioles are still coming back to Earth after a torrid hitting spree in the first 20 games or so, so things are still going to take a while overall to balance out. And we're still in second place. So it'll mean that I will need to actually manage games a bit rather than sit back in the dugout and occasionally shout out "Attaway to hit, boys," and walk away with a win.
