We’re thrilled to share that we’ve received a Digital Humanities Advancement Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) for Project Ballyhoo, which studies the reach and effect of movie publicity in the 20th century by using computational methods to explore the re-use and circulation of text and images from Hollywood pressbooks throughout newspapers across the United States. The project uses pressbooks from the @mhdl and the Chronicling America collection from the Library of Congress to analyze these artifacts of film history at scale.

Thrilled to announce that
@Sarah_Florini, @drericaoneil, and I have been funded through the NEH ODH "Dangers & Opportunities of Tech" program to collab with our colleagues at the Online Content Creators Association to co-create community-based ways of understanding algorithmic governance!

This project & collaboration with content creators was dreamed up in March 2020, and this funding means we'll have the opportunity to co-create knowledge in/with community. 💫

🎉 🚨 Hooray! Congratulations to the NEH ODH awardees in the Dangers and Opportunities of Technology: Perspectives from the Humanities program, the Digital Humanities Advancement Grants program, and new directors for the Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities. (And kudos as well as to all of the other NEH grantees!)

And if you were one of the many peer reviewers for any of these programs-- thank you. The NEH could not do the work that we do without you.

"NEH awards $41.3 million in grants to support 280 #humanities projects nationwide.

Includes funding for films, exhibitions, books, research, & education projects, & the first #NEHgrant awards in three new programs under the “American Tapestry” initiative."
