The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria is set to rule on whether Netflix’s highly anticipated true-crime series, Beauty and the Bester, will be allowed to stream in South Africa. The three-part documentary, which unpacks the life and crimes of convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester and his partner, Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, is scheduled for release at 9 a.m. on Friday.
What makes the timing unusual is that judgment in the urgent application brought by Bester and Magudumana will be handed down just half an hour before the documentary goes live. Many are asking: is this a coincidence, or a calculated marketing move?
