Halep announced her retirement from tennis after the match.

What a difference one missed shot could have made for Tig on break point in the 3rd set. The chair umpire declined to overrule the call. No electronic review. Tig could only stand at the net and stare helplessly at the line as the score went back to Deuce.

Makarova went on to hold serve and win the game, set, and match.

After winning the 1st set, Bulgaru was down 0-5 in the 2nd, then remarkably won 6 straight games and served for the match at 6-5 with her Romanian home country crowd cheering her on.

It went to a tiebreak, where Masarova needed 9 set points to win the 2nd set. She went on to win the 3rd 6-0.

Congrats to both players on a great match 💜

Makarova serves a few underhanded in the 3rd set 👀 Converted one. It's late (after 23:00).

Later, Tig is visibly upset and tosses racquet high in the air, fumbles the catch, then half-kicks it to the side of the court.

Now a medical timeout for Makarova. Commentator mentioned she told the chair umpire she felt dizzy.
