I've never listened to Haim.
Live, they come over as such lovely people. Este cried two songs in at the warmth of the crowd's response, and it felt sweet rather than twee.
Warm country vibes carried us along, and their personal way of engaging with the audience made it feel like a few friends catching up after a while apart.
Plus the crowd was huge, the setting - on a hill in the park next to the sea - a natural amphitheatre, and the music easy to enjoy.
Carolina Durante. Spanish indie rock, and WOW. The singer, on crutches, gave everything.
The genuine-ness of this band stood out a mile. They love their music, they love performing, and they clearly love each other.
And all this love, they shared with the crowd. This generosity was contagious, and theirs was perhaps the most energetic of sets, for band and crowd. Smiles for everyone

I only knew WetLeg as the 'Chaise Longue' band.
They were entertaining, but seemed like the singer plus session musicians rather than a real band. The other original member seems to have melted into the background.
Unlike some other performances, I didn't feel that they believe in their music. It seemed like an opportunity well taken rather than a deeply felt need.
And Chaise Longue was the best song by miles, unfortunately.
Saw a lot of new bands that were channeling a 1990s indie energy, and felt like I'd seen so many of them in better incarnations in the 1990s.
Kim Deal is an original. At one point she struggled to read some Portuguese to the crowd, snarled 'LET ME FINISH!' - and there we were, back 30 years.
Plus she gave us Cannonball, and did Gigantic as a tribute to Steve Albini. #Goddess
Chatpile... Well, Oklahoman sludge metal / noise rock is not my thing, but by golly they were good to see.
Their love for their music was clear, and there was an engaging freedom in the performance of all, especially the singer (Raygun Busch). And between songs he regaled us with fascinating facts about films relating to Portugal.
An unexpected pleasure which reminded us of why it's good to go to festivals.
We were excited to see Charli XCX, but I felt let down.
It was a celebration of vanity and ego, shallow and pointless. The performance boiled down to...
Charli struts
Charli swears
Charli shakes her arse
Charli shakes her hair
Repeat
It felt like watching somebody lapdance while doing poor karaoke.
An empty experience that showed off the vacuousness of the music.
PrimaveraSound Porto was last week. Here's some of the performances that stuck out...
Alan Sparhawk, of Low, gave a most human, emotionally open, joyfully melancholic set.
I smiled so much, on the edge of tears.
Came away in awe of his artistic courage, which has inspired my to look at my own work again.
A spectacular highlight due to it's honesty, authenticity and necessity.
