If I had been born a cis male I almost certainly would have ended up an incel like my divorced father. I see a fork in my past where it almost happened were it not for my connection to womanhood.

If I had been cis female, the misogynistic environment I grew up in would have broken me and I likely would have followed my mothers same path… married too young to a man who I wasn’t attracted to and who didn’t respect me, to divorce 15 years later.

I like to think I'd have been cis if I'd been born a girl. Which sort of makes it my dad's fault I'm trans. If he'd just passed me the X instead of the Y...ah, but he did not.

Maybe I'd have still been trans anyway. Only I'd be a trans man. I kinda like that idea, that I'm inherently trans, and that no matter what, I was going to be unsatisfied with the AGAB.

I spent this evening at an organizational meeting for this year's Internationalist Queer Pride Berlin, and I was so happy to see so many passionate queer people there, with so many great ideas, ready to step up and help make this year's protest powerful, accessible, and impactful.

To be honest, this is the fourth year, and it's always extremely stressful as we start getting closer to the event and there's still only a few core dedicated people. But then suddenly people volunteer their time and energy, and then there's enough people to actually make it happen, and it's always such a relief.

I'll tell you this much - I never (in 1992) thought I'd see a day when hundreds of people in my community would gather at 9am on a Wednesday to defend the rights of trans kids to transition safely.

Never could have imagined it.

In 1994, when I attempted to get the gender marker changed on my passport, I was quite literally laughed out of the office by the staff, who were telling each other what a joke I was in the broad hearing of everyone in the room.

That was in this town.

In 1993, when I was jumped by a group of fascists and beaten senseless.

That was in this town.

In 1992, when I'd transitioned, I was kicked out of my housing by my landlord, no notice, just get your stuff and get out. I was merely fortunate to find an apartment nearby that I could afford within a couple of days.

That was in this town.

So I am deeply moved by the number of people who showed up yesterday, not all of them queer themselves, to help defend trans kids.

People spreading the message of trans joy and trans life and trans love.

It makes me again #ProudToBeTrans.

I am unreasonably excited by this. I cannot recommend her books enough. They were literally the first books I ever read in my life that talked about what my life was actually like. Not every detail - but so much was straight out of my own behaviours, it was the first time I ever identified with a character on a deep level.

Dreadnought made me say, for the first time ever, that I was #ProudToBeTrans. It was 26 years after my transition.
