Finished a listen through of Raising Steam (audio books really are great for dog walks and driving) and it's just as good as I remember it being on release.

Such a great bit of writing and peak Terry, but now I am sad because despite all the hints of stories that could have been, we'll not be seeing them.

Finished #RaisingSteam and quite enjoyed it. 3.5 stars for what that's worth.

It's definitely a very emotional book for me, in that it's clear to see how Sir Terry's health was affecting him.

I still need to steel myself to read his final #Discworld novel...

@vicorva
now I am aware that was suffering from 's by then which IIRC he stated made writing harder for him, and that was his last book, so he probably felt obligated to fans to give all his OC's a last hurrah, but I can't help shake the feeling that that's not all.
It also feels like that when you have multiple protagonists, they end up struggling for their time in the spotlight, not wanting to be left in the background.

@vicorva
I'd say that's perfectly fine.
I'll probably get some flack from hardcore / fans for this, but trying to constantly reuse your OCs can also get tiresome.
Sir Terry had introduced quite some characters over time, and to me it felt like he was trying to use all of them in subsequent books.
Especially in it felt like he had to use all of them, resulting in brief appearance that felt rushed: mastodon.social/users/FiXato/s

@solarbear
as I noted in an older toot of mine, mastodon.social/@FiXato/101095, the whole book felt rushed to me; and crammed with past characters and references... As if wanted to revisit all of 's previous characters one more time.
It's been a while since I last read it, but I also remember it as less coherent as previous books, which is a shame.

The further I get into Terry Pratchett's Discworld novel Raising Steam, the more rushed it feels...
I have a feeling this would've done better spread over 2 or 3 books, rather than a single one. Characters and species keep getting introduced out of nowhere, and barely given any content before moving on again to the next.
Maybe it's to enhance the fleeting aspect of a train passing by along its tracks, but it just feels unfinished and rushed to me.

"Making money is good, but there is no pockets in a shroud."
mid-19th century , possibly earlier, though I first read it in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novel Raising Steam.

I've just finished reading 's novel . Overall it was enjoyable, but not as good as previous books in the series imho.

It felt a bit long-winded at times, and seemed to include some characters just for the sake of having them make an appearance.

Nevertheless I've had a hard time putting the book (or rather phone with app) down at times, so I can't complain too much. It's good to read social commentary mixed with fantasy.
