Berkana & Tiwaz — a journey of healing and courage
Berkana
The rune of the Birch, of fertility, protection, healing, and new beginnings.
The birch is the first leafy tree to rise through the snow – resilient, feminine, deeply rooted.
To me, Berkana is linked to Idunna, goddess of eternal youth.
She who tends her garden, full of life and hope, fell from Midgard into Nifelheim – a realm of cold, darkness, and giants.
There, she found a wolf’s pelt and wrapped herself in it, blending in to survive.
But deep inside, she remained a daughter of the sun.
Tiwaz
The rune of courage, truth, and justice.
Represented by Tyr, the god who sacrificed his hand to bind Fenrir – the wolf of chaos.
He knew the cost and carried it with strength.
For me, Tiwaz marks an inner victory.
For too long, I was blamed for mistakes I did not make.
My self-confidence crumbled. I believe that’s when burnout began.
But truth always rises.
No bitterness – only recognition.
No battle – only healing.
Now I see: I must no longer feed Fenrir – my inner chaos and fear –
but I must still listen to what he has to say.
There is a middle ground between light and shadow.
A place where Idunna’s garden may bloom again and Tyr’s strength guards me.
Berkana and Tiwaz: femininity and courage. Healing and truth.
A new spring begins.
