SCTV doesn't get nearly enough credit for being ahead of the curve in having musicians appear in comedic bits. NBC gave SCTV an edict to have regular musicians. The writers initially resisted this idea before realizing that the musicians could be absorbed into the shows within the show. It's also clear that the musicians had a lot of fun with this, such as Hall and Oates in CHARIOTS OF EGGS.
