Seoul’s Dae Hwan Kim earns 5th ONE Championship win in Jakarta

Representing Ryeong Promotion and Kukje Gym, Dae Hwan “Ottogi” Kim, 31, of Seoul, South Korea has earned his fifth victory in ONE Championship. He was one of the winners at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream,” which marked his eighth bout in the Singapore-based martial arts organization.

Dae Hwan Kim vs Zhao Zhi Kang

Featuring three ONE Super Series striking contests and 11 mixed martial arts matches, “ONE: Warrior’s Dream” took place on November 17, 2018 at the Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the sixth bout of the evening, Kim competed in an MMA match the bantamweight division against Zhao Zhi Kang, 23, of Inner Mongolia, China.

In an action-packed clash of top bantamweight talents, Kim and Zhao battled through three grueling rounds that saw both men have their moments. Although the Chinese contender had the edge in height and reach, he was not able to take advantage of the shorter man in Kim who was stronger and crisper with his striking.

After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight bout between Zhao and Kim was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, referee Olivier Coste raised the hand of the South Korean contender, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

By beating Zhao at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream,” Kim improved his professional MMA record to 14 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw. On the other hand, Zhao, who represents Shanxi Xindu Martial Arts, now has 24 wins and 5 losses.

When Kim made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Moment of Truth” on December 6, 2013, he submitted Thanh “Alladin” Vu, 26, of Australia via rear-naked choke. On March 14, 2014, the Seoul native scored yet another rear-naked choke submission victory at “ONE: War of Nations,” conquering Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of the Philippines, who was recently crowned the undisputed ONE Bantamweight World Champion.

For the third time, Kim won via rear-naked choke submission on October 9, 2015 at “ONE: Tigers of Asia,” where he defeated LiGe Teng, 25, of Inner Mongolia. On April 20, 2018, the South Korean fighter defeated Masakazu Imanari, 42, of Tokyo, Japan at “ONE: Heroes of Honor” via unanimous decision.

Yay, we're going to Korea for #DH2026!!

Just received the news that our short paper on the French crime fiction collection "Le Masque" has been accepted, as well as my poster on the "Mapping DH" initiative! Awesome!

That's all the more wonderful as we recently received funding for a workshop, to take place the week before in Seoul, with Korean colleagues, to investigate suitable data sources to study literary translations from German and French into Korean.
