"This study is one of the first to closely examine the relation between physical activity and word-learning abilities in children as young as 3–6 years of age.

Results align with previous findings stating that aerobic exercise can boost vocabulary learning and suggest that this is the case regardless of existing language skills."

🆓 #OpenAccess #Babbling & early speech in Extremely Preterm Infants aged 1;0 differed significantly from a ref group of TD infants aged 0;10. No difference in presence of oral stops was found b/n the groups, but the EPT group had a significantly lower proportion of infants with CB and smaller consonant inventory. These differences were found even though the EPT infants were 2 months older than the infants in the ref group. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10

Hey @wespeechies! Why is a speechie a speechie and not speecho; a truckie a truckie and not a trucko; a wharfie a wharfie and not a wharfo? Whereas, a garbo is a garbo and not a garbie; an ambo is an an ambo and not an ambie; a muso is a muso and not a musie, and a milko is a milko and not a milkie. And what about mozzies, sunnies, trackies, pommies, and of course, Aussies?

"...if all educators knew Brain Frames, it’d be such a game changer. They wouldn’t have to spend so much time and energy prepping, and kids would have a way to show what they know and are learning. Can you imagine?!” - Kim R. Teacher

Hi #SLP_SLT people! It's 59 days since I began posting from this Mastodon handle and I'm missing the #SLP / #SLT camaraderie and pace of the birdsite. Maybe things would rev up somewhat if colleagues

💡 followed these groups.

@devlangdis @childhoodapraxiaofspeech

YOU'D THEN SEE ALL POSTS MENTIONING THE ABOVE HANDLES.

Without organization, writing isn't writing. It's a muddled up mess. So why isn't organization showing up on "the lists" -- or being explicitly taught in more schools?

Have you noticed that the verb "to “toot” has been replaced with the verb "to publish” (in Mastodon)?

The verb "to boost' (or "to re-tweet on the birdsite) remains, as do "Reply", "Favourite", "Bookmark", and "Pin to Profile".

There's more, but a big favourite of mine is the "Edit" feature (and/or, "delete and re-draft".

I’m so happy & absolutely filled with gratitude for all the people who helped, endured, cheered, persisted, shared, steered me on course, read & reviewed, and who are shining the torch to light the paths ahead! 🙏🏼

Hi David, @DJohnstonSLT2B @deezy

I followed your #SLP_SLT Mastodon about 3 weeks ago, but it has been sitting there as a "follower request". So, regarding the pending/limbo thing, you might need to review your settings and/or ask your admin whether there's an explanation.

FIVE WORD GAMES FOR FUN (and frustration)!

Wordle (easy, but fun)

Waffle (a little harder)
wafflegame.net/

Quordle (Tricky. It has a VERY cool feature in that you can lift your game by using its PRACTICE feature. Love it!)

Redactle (degree of difficulty varies; this is my favourite. Your scores improve when you get the hang of it)

Semantle (usually difficult)

Every month since June 1998 Speechwoman has selected a speech-language pathology / speech and language therapy (#SLP_SLT) related site of the month. Sometimes it is not so much a site, as a page, blog entry or resource within a site that is worthwhile celebrating here.

THIS MONTH'S CHOICES ARE JUST FOR FUN!

Warm congratulations to all Speechwoman's winners, including those whose hard work has "gone" from the Internet!

One main message of the 1-hour documentary, #BlameItOnGutenberg", is that humans are biologically wired for ORAL language, not written language. Written language must be learned through instruction, and when there is a genetic, neurological glitch, this language learning modality (written language: reading and writing) requires appropriate intervention, intervention that many schools fail to provide. blameitongutenberg.org/
