I wrote a less than 100 line long Python PoC to do some low frequency text processing. Zero external dependencies. Does memory caching to reduce I/O.
The main feedback is that they're worried about it might take too much resources. On a GHz-class 64 bit CPU, with GB-level RAM. Oh, and it will be a burden to maintain too. So we should use big component X instead. Because that's somehow "more efficient".
Software people have officially lost the plot.

It seems the quest for thinness (which I absolutely could not care less about) has pushed them into soldering everything to the motherboard. Like Apple. #sigh

Sigh. Work up to eyeballs. Wouldn't have heard about the "drama" were it not for Joe. I've been asked by some who also didn't know. And what happens at the next one if this happens. Should we all just run our own instances. I hate bigots X-phobes etc, but also cancelling everyone on an instance doesn't seem particularly great either, again, who may not even be aware. The year is 2025, and I'm still holding down weird keys for long periods to reset the pram (pardon me, SMC now) on a Mac, so it'll boot again.
I love the availability of portable computers and laptops from super cheap to super fancy. I hate their keyboards. As a touch typist, nothing puts more of a speed bump in my lifestyle than the complete lack of edges on the keys. (OK being deported to a torture prison might also accomplish the same result.) One tiny dot on the F and J doesn't help, partly because sometimes that dot is instead on the D and K keys, and partly because that's Not Enough.
