Poetry: Pride United

What we all shout is our desire to fly
and see our potential grow higher,
without being bound by chains with no key.
We require the determination and power
to live our life uniquely and free,
preventing our hearts and souls from fading
and wanting to retire under the weight of a lord and sire.
We have had enough of being routinely slurred
and left in the gutter like a flea.
We will cast these chains off like the bird of fire
and seek victory on plains far higher.
There are many who choose not to understand us
and instead conspire.
We need not worry when our rainbow array
is united as a choir;
it’s then our voices have better chances of being heard,
preventing our freedoms from being deferred, deterred,
and left in mire like an unloved herd.
We demand to have the basic rights as a bird,
for now many of us must fly away from all that is absurd.
Yet we refuse to allow you to steal away
and then hide our identity & dignity
and gaslight us into thinking that never has occurred.
We will be strong to the last fight
because in our hearts we know we have grass roots might.
Here’s the take away, many of us have lost everything already,
be careful when you chose us as an opponent,
there will be nothing you can say or pray
that will make us disappear and go away
because you forget one small component.
You forget we are actually your sons and daughters,
it is us who need waters of life now,
yet I promise we will remember that you chose to shun
and at times even slaughter with us with your own guns.
So take a moment and think,
when you stifle and attempt to destroy us
you won’t avoid being indicted,
you forget you harm your future, your legacy and everything
because you refuse to be reunited,
yet we have hope, for the colors of our rainbow
transcend every party, creed and race,
so while we won’t forget that you have left us blighted,
we have far greater hope because within us something has been Ignited,
our hearts are already freed
because we live the dream and values of these states united.

After a week shadowed by heavy anxiety and deep depression, finding light felt almost impossible. But life has its way of surprising us when we least expect it. Last Thursday's concert was a beacon of hope; the band's outspoken support for the transgender community was not just a statement, it was a warm embrace, a validation of who we are, and a reminder that we belong. That night, I felt seen.

And just when I thought the week had given all its surprises, today brought a gift that words barely capture. My wonderful wife, understanding me in ways only love can explain, organized a makeup party! With some of our closest girl friends, margaritas in hand, we dove into a night of beauty tips, gifts, laughter, and singing our hearts out to 90s girl anthems. It was a moment of pure joy, of sisterhood, of being unapologetically us.

Though each of us carries the responsibilities of our own families, and such moments are fleeting, I wished tonight could stretch into forever. This wasn't just a party; it was gender affirming care in its most beautiful form, something I've longed for, desperately needed. For the first time in a long while, I felt an undeniable sense of belonging, completely at ease with my soul sisters, a contrast to the countless guys' nights out that never quite felt right. Tonight, it wasn't about letting off steam; it was about being our true selves, together.

I'm overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who shared this magical night with me. Your support, your laughter, your acceptance mean the world. Tonight was a reminder that joy can find us in the most unexpected moments, and when it does, it's nothing short of transformative. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for this unforgettable night of joy. 💖

Attended a dear friend's birthday celebration last night, presenting as my true self. It was a special evening, not just for the occasion but because it was one of the first times I've been in a social setting like this since my transition. Most guests were aware of my journey, except for one. Despite knowing and trusting her, the anticipation of her reaction had me on edge.

Her initial surprise quickly turned into a heartfelt congratulations, and the night went on beautifully. But it was her parting words that truly touched my heart. Whispering 'I'm very proud of you, welcome to the club!' before she left, filled me with such warmth and validation.
