#TechnologyMetals

Going to start a little thread of these, that—having been reading Kathryn Yusoff a fair bit recently—I think of as #DiagramsOfDispossession.

They are all taken from geophysical surveys or mine planning documents of Global North mining companies prospecting for #TechnologyMetals in Sub-Saharan Africa.

A mine planning diagram showing a schedule of 18 digs creating a single sprawling open-pit. Very low resolution, with grey contour lines outside the pit, which blend into highly saturated bench-marking lines inside the pit, primarily in purple, with different digs colour coded in shades of violet, indigo, blue with one red, yellow, green.

Recent studio experiments visualising relationships between minerals and the #ElectromagneticSpectrum.

Samples collected from sites of geophysical prospecting for #TechnologyMetals and fragments of electronics are lit with prisms used to separate the visible spectrum into its consituent colours.

Doping prisms with specific metals enables them to transmit certain frequencies of light. The reflection spectra of raw ores can be used to target #CriticalMinerals.

Two glass cubic prisms, saturated with the full spectrum of colour stand in front of a cracked screen whose shards resemble a mountainous landscape. A reflected pale blue light source hangs moon-like above them. All of this is seen soft focus on the back screen of a camera showing that is is recording, with various numbers telling the shutter speed, aperture and so on.A surface, strongly lit with a single light sourec and cluttered with various rocks. Two cubic prisms glued together hang in the foreground. The whole scene is doubled to the right by a mirror's reflection.
