I had a great time taking photos as a part of #TheCompoChallenge. This is a recap of my experience, and shots taken.

My best attempt at the Golden spiral for #TheCompoChallenge

Week 5 of #TheCompoChallenge. This week's assignment is using The Golden Spiral.

I had so much fun collecting shots, and looking at everyone else's submissions. I will be putting together a recap blog post soon.

This week's #thecompochallenge by @hiro was, on my part, dominated by confusion. I couldn’t get my head around the concept of the golden circle. In addition, I couldn’t find time to actually go and shoot, with this concept in mind. So this week’s entries are from the archives – and I still don’t know whether they would fit at all.

In 2019 we went to Japan and also to Awaji Yumebutai by famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando. The weather was all grey but it was a great trip still. 1/2

If the #thecompochallenge of this week wasn't tough enough, sickness kept me indoors most of the time.

So I had to do it with this sunrise shot from my run on Tuesday and one from a few month ago from Antwerp, both following the golden circle/ratio.

Well, this was a difficult assignment in #TheCompoChallenge, but I think I was able to meet some of the criteria for The Golden Spiral.

It’s been a wild ride on @hiro’s #TheCompoChallenge and I thought this week’s golden spiral challenge would have finally stumped me, but the California Botanic Garden came through for me again, along with my old friend, Bruce Beasley’s Intersections 2.

This is a close-up photograph of a succulent plant with a rosette growth pattern. Pale blue-green, fleshy leaves spiral outward from a central point, creating a geometric arrangement with overlapping layers. The thick, pointed leaves have slight pink tinges on some edges. Sunlight creates soft shadows between the leaves, highlighting the plant's dimensional quality and waxy surface texture. The overall composition shows the natural symmetry and delicate coloration of this drought-resistant plant.

The image shows a stark, twisted tree with bare branches arching dramatically over a desert landscape. In the foreground, dry yellow grass and small flowering plants grow alongside a prickly pear cactus. The background reveals more scattered vegetation and shrubs against a light sky, creating a contrast between the dark, gnarled tree structure and the sparse but resilient desert flora below.

This outdoor sculpture features several geometric copper or bronze-colored metal cubes and rectangular forms arranged in a dynamic, angular composition. The sculpture projects outward with multiple rectangular pieces intersecting at various angles. The main subject is a potato placed on a wooden surface. Superimposed on the potato is the Fibonacci spiral, also known as the golden spiral, along with the associated golden ratio rectangles.

I’m going to use being on holiday as my excuse for aborting on this week’s #TheCompoChallenge (not the fact it’s so difficult), however I do have one from last week that looks like it has a golden spiral in there somewhere.

This last week was a struggle. I couldn’t find the time to go out and look for stuff, so just dug through the archive at home.
