Just watched The Monkey.
I was totally unsure about it at first, it is a weird film with a weird pace and a weird style.
But it managed to stick the landing I thought.
It was predictable at the right moments, but still managed to be shocking enough.
Final Destination with a more comedic twist and an object to focus everything on.

finally, finally someone has had the guts to adapt a King story as a comedy-horror for the first time since Creepshow (?) and it feels so right
just a joy start to finish if you enjoy a good squelchy comedy horror a la Ready Or Not or Bodies Bodies Bodies in recent years. while I enjoyed Osgood Perkins' Longlegs well enough last year, this is great and I'm already sure will be on my shortlist for best horror of the year. easy A from me
Finally finished my review of The Monkey. It hit the horror-comedy sweet spot for me, albeit in the sense of the grimmest possible comedy I can imagine, the Stephen King version of a Final Destination movie. Between this and Longlegs, I'd happily see whatever movie Oz Perkins decides to make next.
