Re-Read - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Last Ronin

I read this book a few years back and loved it immediately. It is a wild ride into a dark future for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles where the grandson of Shredder (Oroku Hiroto) rules New York and only one turtle is still alive. Which turtle is left a mystery at the beginning of the story and when you first get the reveal, it hits you like a ton of bricks.

The story is well paced, overall, and gets into the how, the why, and what was happening with the turtles, Splinter, Oroku Hiroto, Baxter Stockman, April O'Neil, and others. Each reveal more interesting than the next.

A lot of this goes back to a longstanding feud between the Foot Clan and the Hamato family. The Foot Clan calls for a truce, which was a ruse - leading to the events and world of the series.

The use of a few different art styles in the series really works well. Flashbacks are done in the classic style of Eastman and Laird's original TMNT comics, which are just so well done.

Overall, I enjoyed this darker series and am enjoying my reread of it. If you like the idea of a darker tale of the turtles, feel free to check it out.
