I wish to emphasize:

Neil Postman 1985 gives a deeper perspective of 2024 situation because it does not name Twitter, Facebook, BlueSky, TikTok, YouTube, Apple iPhone, Android Smartphone, Samsung by name. It frames the problem as "mob mentality" of television. And it is important to see technology progression and NOT just blame "Fox News" alone, but the medium addiction itself.

Same with Peter Pomerantsev in 2014, Adam Curtis in 2014 regarding Russia.

The Twitter problem persists in Bluesky and Mastodon. Fragmented topic-changing scrolling of a slew of cat photos, advertisements, mixed in with serious topics. Mental context changes. Entertainment seeking to mask reality. Amusement park information service, rumor mills, amusement mills.

The entire book by Neil Postman in 1985 "Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business" defines this problem of "entertaining news".
