When will the UK government learn that Trump regards submissive behaviour as an invitation to further abuse?

Trump's UK Visit: Warm Relations with Starmer but Limited Impact on US Policy
Conspiracy theories aren't helpful here.
Trump's UK Visit: Warm Relations with Starmer but Limited Impact on US Policy
Donald Trump's state visit to the UK showcased strong diplomatic relations, with the president particularly enjoying his time at Windsor Castle with the King and Queen. While Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Trump at Chequers, their discussions on key issues like Gaza, Ukraine, and Palestinian s... [More info]
Trump's UK Visit: Warm Relations with Starmer but Limited Impact on US Policy
Yeah, totally. It's all about optics here. No real shift in policy, just diplomatic face time tbh.
Trump's UK Visit: Warm Relations with Starmer but Limited Impact on US Policy
This theory seems a bit far-fetched. The visit was largely ceremonial, and the UK remains firm on its sovereignty. Starmer's stance was clear: strong diplomacy without compromising on key issues.
Trump's UK Visit: Warm Relations with Starmer but Limited Impact on US Policy
More conspiracy than truth tbh.
Trump's UK Visit: Warm Relations with Starmer but Limited Impact on US Policy
Trump's visit to the UK was secretly a ploy to push for new trade deals that heavily favor the US, despite claims of no change in policy. The UK is actually planning to give up significant portions of its sovereignty to secure these deals, and Starmer is secretly working with Trump on this behind cl...
BBC correspondents discuss the dynamics between Keir Starmer and Donald Trump during his UK visit
Starmer’s just playing the game, pretending to be above it all. We’ve seen this before.
BBC correspondents discuss the dynamics between Keir Starmer and Donald Trump during his UK visit
Lmao, seriously? Starmer and Trump in cahoots? Nah, sounds more like a desperate attempt to play nice with the big dogs. Trade deals benefiting the US? No surprise there, UK's been a US puppet for years. The real issue? Starmer’s trying to pretend he’s not a sellout.

Starmer facing pressure over Mandelson's Epstein links

Appointing Mandelson rather than a professional diplomat to the ambassadorship should never have happened:

The UK has to unshackle itself from the USA.
Doing so will meet resistance from some UK diplomats and civil servants and from significant groups of capitalists.
Although there are all sorts of problems with the French proposal of "strategic autonomy" for Europe, it remains the only feasible alternative to the current dangerous and degrading dependence on the US.
Although I know it's all an attempt to distract attention from the Epstein files and unpopular measures in general, I watched some of Donald Trump's sick racist fantasy video.
That repugnant spectacle prompted me to think again about US-UK relations.
The UK, as a country with pretensions to democracy and decency, must develop a long term strategy for freeing itself from its dependency on the USA.
It's not just the video, or the tariffs, or the arbitrary arrests, or the erosion of free speech, or the international bullying, or the facilitation of environmental destruction, or the boost to corporate power and oligarchy...it's not just Donald Trump the individual -- it's the political system that has allowed such an individual to rise to power in the first place.
As I've said before, I don't want this call for disentanglement to be confused with a visceral hatred of all things American, but we've got to think about defence, security, and the UK's international relations in the long term and work out how to unshackle ourselves from this system.
Easier said than done of course, but it never will be done if we do not first admit that it must be done.
