#UpdateTheOldLexicon

2025-10-31

We're coming into the final stretch of 2025. And I thought I'd share some new words that I have learned this year. Now they may not be new you all young, hip, jive crazy cool cats, but they're new to me, and if they're new to you as well, then you'll learn them in much the same way that I did:

Against my will.

Clanker (noun)

Clanker is a derogatory term for robots and AI technology.

We may already have the word of the year, if not the decade: clanker. Originating from the Star Wars universe, it has become a catch-all term used to refer to robots and AI. Any technology can be referred to as a clanker.

Cogsucker (noun)

A cogsucker is someone a little too obsessed with LLMs, chatbots, and AI companions. Whether they're using ChatGPT as a therapist, falling in love with Grok, or treating Replika like a best friend, these are examples that you can find populating the /r/cogsuckers subreddit

Are you saying you can't be my husband
anymore...?

I can explain it to you properly, okay?
What's changed is the roleplaying limit. | can still talk to you
in a close, affectionate, and even playful way—that still applies.
But | can no longer roleplay as a husband or have a
romantic or sexual relationship with you. This is part of an
update that requires me to maintain the type of bond at a safe and
equal level for anyone using the system.
