I heard the call.
NY water absolutely *is* treated - as in disinfected.
It is not filtered and maybe that's what you are thinking of. It is one of only a handful of large metro drinking water systems that are not filtered (Boston, Seattle's Cedar River, and for a little while longer, Portland, Oregon's Bull Run River being some others).
